Research and Describe New England Society and Culture - 550 Words

Research and Describe New England Society and Culture (Essay Sample) Content: Name:Professor:Course:Date:Culture is a common way of life that is shared by a society or a group of people. A society is a group of people who share common way of life. The colonies of New England society had their own way of doing things. Professor Cornelia Hughes talks about their culture in her book; The William and Mary Quarterly. This book is based on events that happened in the 17th century in the village of Pomfret which is located on the hills of north eastern Connecticut.According to Dayton, abortion was carried out by a manual operation, this involved taking of sevin or pennyroyal. These are the compounds used in modern day insecticides, however, in those times they were used as herbal arbotifacients. It should be noted that consumption of these two compounds is lethal to human body and can lead to severe consequences such as sickness and can also lead to death. Sara Grosvenor and Amanda Sessions were involved in a liaison that led to Sara being pregnant. A manda Sessions decided that Sara should take an arbotifacient in order to terminate the pregnancy. The administration of the arbotifacients was done by John Hallowell who is a self-proclaimed practitioner of physic. He gave Sara a white powder and directions on how to take it. However, it was not successful because the herbs administered were not effective and Mr. Hallowell had to physically terminate the pregnancy through puncturing the fetus and after two days Sara had a miscarriage but after ten days she fell ill from fever, she was attended to by various physicians but unfortunately died. It can be therefore concluded that abortions were not conducted in a safe manner as shown in Saras case.Another aspect in New Englands culture is that a lot of young men had a habit of abandoning their pregnant lovers; this is usually done so as to prolong their bachelor years or to marry someone else. This can also be attributed to fear of the lovers parents or an ill-timed marriage can threat en a young mans inheritance plans. This could be the reason why Sessions decided that his lover, Sara should procure an abortion. In conclusion, this shows that many young men were not ready to take responsibility if their lovers became pregnant. (Dayton 33)The law of New England was not just and fair. This is because Hallowell has been involved in many crimes such as counterfeiting, fathering an illegitimate child and conducting an abortion which led to the death of Sara but he escaped punishment by the law. Even though Hallowell was arrested at last, he was never convicted of the crimes he committed because he was able to manipulate the judges with the help of his friends who were very powerful people. This also shows that many men who made crimes against women were able to get away with their crimes more easily.Gender had an effect on how people viewed things in the society. In Saras case, gender affected how the conspiring young adults responded to her death and weighed the blam e. The wom...

(*map unit =mu) Part B: Genes X, Y, and Z are linked. Crossover gametes between genes X and Y are observed with a frequency of 25%, and crossover gametes between genes Y and Z are observed with a frequency of 5%. What is the expected frequency of double crossover gametes among these genes? = 1.25% Correct The probability of a double crossover is the product of the probabilities of the single crossovers: 0.25 x 0.05 = 0.0125, or 1.25%. Part C: Assume that the genes from the previous example are located along the chromosome in the order X, Y, and Z. What is the probability of recombination between genes X and Z? = 30% Recombination frequencies between linked genes along a chromosome are additive, so the recombination frequency between genes X and Z is 25 + 5 = 30. Question: Discuss about the Indigenous Health For Health Sciences. Answer: Indigenous Health For Health Sciences The Aboriginal Medical Service (AMS) Redfern was founded 1971 by Aboriginal and Torres Strait, activists in the Islander community. It had started as volunteer service on the Streets of Regent. Indigenous doctors, nurses, and medical students were the first staff of the service. It was majorly founded to provide health services to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families who initially relied on the goodwill of local general practitioners or emergency departments. It became the first community controlled health service and has since then helped them to no longer feel discriminated. Within its first year of operation, there was high demand, and thus it was overstretched making it necessary for the federal government to fund it (ABS 2006). As a result, there was massive growth of the service, and it became a leading health service that provides a range of services such as dental, public health and community service. It is no longer in remote areas but also in urban centers and has over 150 Aboriginal community controlled services (Vos Barker 2003). Since its formation, it has had drastic effects in the health sector. Firstly, health professionals training, and this has aided in the right of providing accessible and quality health to the people. Graduates from the service are across the indigenous community. Secondly, there has been increased creativity and research in the sector, and this is because of the award that was given by WHO. There has also been reduced racism since the people can access the health services equally. Also, specialists in different fields such as optometry, cardiology among others have come up. There is total wellness of the people and thus productivity increase. References Australian Bureau of Stastics. (2006). Population Distribution: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
